B-LEVEL REGIONAL GIRLS BASEBALL

As the biggest girls baseball program in the region in terms of participation, our NDG Bobcats Girls Baseball program gives our girls a league of their own. While we have, and always will, offer mixed teams in all divisions and the opportunity to play A or B-level baseball to all registered female players, girls baseball answers a big demand for our girls to be able to play together.

NDG Baseball believes strongly in the mission to have more girls playing ball. After decades of small successes with mixed baseball, NDGBA joined the Ligue Féminine de Baseball du Québec in 2023 and immediately became a leader in the category with close to 100 girls playing in our association.

The NDG Bobcats are proof that girls want to play – all they need is the opportunity!

COMPOSITION OF TEAMS

At the B level (Bobcats are LFBQ-B), teams are made equally, following Baseball Québec’s parameters on how to build teams.

B teams may carry up to 14 players each. The basic parameters for how teams are made are:

  • EQUITY IN AGES OF PLAYERS
Players are divided as equally as possibly by age. Ex: In 2026, 13U was made up of kids born in 2013 and 2014. If there were 2 B teams and there was an equal split of 2013/2014-born players, the rosters would have 7 2013s and 7 2014s on each team. If the split is unequal, it would be balanced as close as possible, taking into account the next point:
  • EQUITY IN SKILLS
The NDGBA Competition Committee rates all players based on the 5 Tools of Baseball and some other criteria, and at the B level, does so in conjunction with the division convener. Once all players are rated, they are split as equally as possible based on their ratings. While this is by nature a subjective evaluation, the Competition Committee has a lot of experience as has a good record of creating balanced teams. If the teams are obviously unbalanced, the Committee may “trade” some players to re-balance. Trades may only be made to balance teams, not to make a strong team even better.
  • FRIEND REQUESTS
NDG Baseball does not accept friend requests for two main reasons:
1/ It is logistically not possible to manage the many friend requests we receive and balance the teams based on the above parameters at the same time. If, at the end of the process, it’s possible to accommodate a request and keep teams balanced, the division convener will attempt to do so, but there are no guarantees.
2/ Our vast experience tells us that kids playing with different players means they will make new friends and new teammates – and some of these friendships will last a lifetime. It always works out in the end.

WHY PLAY ALL-GIRLS INSTEAD OF WITH BOYS?

Bobcats baseball coach and players

While all kids aged 4-7 play Rally Cap together, Baseball Quebec offers two streams for girls ages 8-18:

  • The all-girls Ligue féminin de baseball du Québec
  • Girls can also play mixed with boys in the BQ Lac St. Louis League

While no girl is obligated to play in the LFBQ, NDG Baseball strongly recommends it.

This option gives girls the chance to thrive in an all-female environment and also gives them a path towards the Lac St. Louis Cardinals girls A-level program if they excel with the Bobcats.

NOTE/ As of 2025, Baseball Quebec no longer allows LFBQ players to substitute in the BQ LSL league or vice-versa. This was done in order to continue to promote and grow girls baseball in Quebec.

NEW FOR 2026

Keeping Girls in Sport

MANDATORY CERTIFICATION FOR ALL BOBCATS COACHES/

Respect in Sport’s Keeping Girls in Sport program is for organizations, coaches and leaders who coach or mentor girls and women.

In partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada and Canadian Women & Sport, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities developed Keeping Girls in Sport with the subject matter expertise of Dr. Vicki Harber, professor emeritus in the faculty of physical education and recreation at the University of Alberta.

Starting in 2026, all NDG Bobcats Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must complete this certification in order to be on any Bobcats coaching staff. The cost is $17 up front and refunded to coaches by NDGBA thanks to support from the Members of the National Assembly for NDG-Westmount, Desirée McGraw, and D’Arcy McGee, Elisabeth Prass.
